Map a network drive or folder

Applies to: Windows 11, 10, Windows 7 and Mac OS X or later


Map a network drive to get to it from File Explorer in Windows without having to look for it or type its network address each time.

Windows 11

  1. Open  File Explorer  from the taskbar or the  Start   menu, or press the  Windows logo key   +  E .
  2. Select  This PC  from the left pane. Then, on the File Explorer ribbon, select  More   >  Map network drive .

  3. In the  Drive  list, select a drive letter. (Any available letter will do.)
  4. In the  Folder  box, type the path of the folder or computer, or select  Browse  to find the folder or computer. To connect every time you sign in to your PC, select  Reconnect at sign-in .
  5. Select  Finish .
Note:  If you can't connect to a network drive or folder, the computer you're trying to connect to might be turned off, or you might not have the correct permissions. Try contacting your network administrator.


Windows 10

Map a network drive to get to it from File Explorer in Windows without having to look for it or type its network address each time.
1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu , or press the Windows logo key + E .

2. Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the Computer tab, select Map network drive.

3. In the Drive list, select a drive letter. (Any available letter will do.)

4. In the Folder box, type the path of the folder(i.e: \\172.16.16.211\sales).To connect every time you log on to your PC, select the Reconnect at sign-in check box.

5. Select Finish .

6. If a window pop up and prompt you to input username and password to get connected to the drive or folder, please contact DNA IT support for help.

Note: If you can't connect to a network drive or folder, the computer you're trying to connect to might be turned off, or you might not have the correct permissions. Try contacting your network administrator.

Mac OS X

1.        Open the Finder, click Go on the menu at the top of the screen, and select Connect to Server. Enter the following address, smb://172.16.16.211. 

2.        You’ll be prompted to authenticate with the appropriate credentials. Please contact IT support if this is the first time you connecting a device to the file server and for us to help with the login process.

3.        After you’ve connected, the file server will appear under the Shared column in the Finder’s sidebar and on the right side of the window, you should find the Channel management folder.

4.        To automatically connect to the shared folder each time you log in,

a.        open the System Preferences window and navigate to Users and Groups > Login Items. Drag and drop the network share from under the Shared column in Finder to the list of Login Items.

b.        You can also make an alias to the folder for easy access later: 
On your Mac, do one of the following:

  1. Select the item, then choose File > Make Alias.
  2. You can create as many aliases for an item as you want, then drag them to other folders or to the desktop.
  3. Or press Option-Command while you drag the original item to another folder or to the desktop to create an alias and move it in one step.
